Helicopter crashes, sound fixes, and the iconic RAK 37 - DayZ just got better with 1.28 update
The DayZ 1.28 update drops with a bang. New guns, events, and smoother gameplay are all here.

Bohemia Interactive is staying true to its commitment to the 2025 roap, continuing to deliver on schedule with the release of 1.28 update. It brings dynamic changes to the Sakhal map, including new environmental elements, introduces new weapons and scopes, along with firearm mechanics. With improved vehicle handling and audio tweaks, 1.28 sets the stage for even more to come this year.

The DayZ 1.28 patch notes are massive, so here’s a quick summary to save you some scrolling:
- New dynamic events: Helicopter crashes, patrol and fishing boat wrecks, medical events, geysers, and ambient cave sounds added to the Frostline expansion.
- New weapons: RAK-37 SMG (returning) and R12 shotgun.
- New optics: PSO-6, Leupold Mark 4, Sights.
- Firearm improvements: Updated weapon obstruction, recoil balancing, damage tweaks, and new animations.
- Vehicles: Improved driving under high ping, better sync, and audio enhancements.
- Audio: Revamped gunfire tails, and quieter footsteps.
Alongside the 1.28 update teaser, the devs also shared a side-by-side comparison of how the sounds have changed. But that’s not all, here’s what else they’ve been working on:
- Fixes & tweaks: Bug fixes covering desyncs, animations, sound issues, clipping, UI bugs, crashes, exploits, and more. Crafting and repair actions now show correct animations and visuals. Improved 3D scope visuals, rangefinder, and firearm overlays.
- Servers & Modding: Expanded spawnabletypes.xml and randompresets.xml capabilities. Better vehicle physics and modding . Numerous stability and script-related fixes.
- Tools & Workbench: Improved Script Editor with new features like split view, symbol highlighting, and crash fixes. Updated Enfusion branding.
But as usual, some issues persisted, while new ones were spotted. Like some collision, sound, and vehicle sync bugs, and visuals and interaction glitches still present in specific areas.
