Tomb Raider devs share sad news despite warm remasters reception
The warm reception of the remasters of the early installments of the Tomb Raider series didn't save the Crystal Dynamics studio from layoffs.

Crystal Dynamics is the latest studio affected by layoffs.
- The team announced that 17 developers have left their job.
- The decision was taken due to business reasons. It's said that this should better set up the studio according to its current and future needs.
- The management assures that the layoffs won't hurt the projects currently underway.
Crystal Dynamics is owned by the Embracer Group, which in Free Radical Design (creators of the Timesplitters series).
Warm reception of remasters didn't save Crystal Dynamics
Recently, Crystal Dynamics has been mainly focused on refreshing older projects. The team, together with Aspyr Media studio (also owned by Embracer), developed Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered. All these titles were warmly received, but as you can see, it didn't save Crystal Dynamics from layoffs.

Crystal Dynamics is a major studio with several hundred employees, so letting go of 17 people, while unfortunate for those impacted, shouldn't greatly impact the team's workflow.
Right now, Crystal Dynamics is working on reboot of the Perfect Dark series.
