A first-person shooter set in the Wild West. Developed by the Polish developer, Techland, it is the fourth entry in the Call of Juarez series. We play as a bounty hunter, Silas Greaves, who recalls his adventures in the Wild West. The game’s campaign is divided into missions, during which the player has to bring down many legendary outlaws and gunmen (Billy Kid, Pat Garret, Jesse James, and others).
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger for PS3 and X360 is a western FPS. The game was developed by Techland, renowned for the Call of Juarez series and other games (Chrome, Dead Island and Mad Riders).
Like the previous parts of the cycle, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger takes you to the Wild West to times of such legends as Billy the Kid, Pat Garrett and Jesse James. They are the prey hunted by Silas Greaves, a bounty hunter.
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger for PS3 and X360 is remarkable for its narrative. Flashback missions are commented by Silas Greaves. This trick is supposed to change the game into a sort of story, but when the old bounty hunter changes his version, it affects the course of events. Greaves usually exaggerates making the game rather spectacular than realistic. If the cowboy says that he fought twenty bandits, this is the number you have to deal with, even if in fact there were only five of them. To keep the balance, the notes with true story are scattered around the game world.
In of gameplay, it is FPS but with strong arcade elements. Annihilate the villains with the help of various revolvers, rifles, shotguns, dynamites or Gatling guns and exploding barrels. The main character can enter a focus mode – time slows down and you can shot down the enemies aiming precisely. The fight is dynamic and it is easy to aim the gun. Compared to the previous parts of the series, the cover system and artificial intelligence of opponents have been improved. As a result, the enemies move during the fight and avoid your bullets.
All actions are rewarded with appropriate number of experience points depending on the degree of pageantry. Your result is summarized after each mission – the note includes accuracy and response time. This system features some new options, e.g. system for character progress. Use it to customize the character to your preferences. Developers offer three skill trees: Desperado (revolvers), Hunter (guns) and Trapper (rifles and sawed-off shotguns). Depending on your preferences, you can master shooting two pistols at once, shooting at long distance or shooting them “at their face”. Skills from different trees complete each other – e.g. increased damage applied in Desperado’s focus mode will be included even if you shoot the enemies with a rifle or shotgun.
The game includes well-known duels but they are presented in a slightly modified form. In Call of Juarez: Gunslinger you should pay attention to two things – holding your hand as close to the holster (using A and D keys) as possible and targeting an opponent with a mouse. Two bars are charged: shooting speed and concentration. You cannot neglect any of them because you will not be able to take your gun out or aim at the enemy.
In addition to the campaign that tells the story of Silas Greaves, the game offers an arcade mode where only quick and effective kills count. The third mode is duels with the most famous gunmen of the Wild West. Complete the campaign to enter the campaign+ mode which repeats the story, but you keep your skills. This allows you to play the game once again, face really challenging opponents and see the second ending. Call of Juarez: Gunslinger for PS3 and X360 offers two endings which cannot be viewed by loading your final game save.
The visual layer includes target shading that introduces a comic style (similar to Borderlands and Prince of Persia published in 2008). Various actions trigger displaying western-style messages.

There are really not many alternatives to Red Dead Redemption for players who long for a proper western video-game experience. Most developers seem to look the other way when considering possible settings – and that’s no surprise.
Techland announced that the shooter Call of Juarez: Gunslinger will hit the Nintendo Switch console on December 10. The release will use a number of features specific to the platform. The first trailer was also presented.
