As in the previous versions of the cycle, in Civilization III we lead a selected civilization, and it is our task to guide it through the subsequent eras of development, from 4,000 BC to the present day. Our duties include: the systematic expansion of our territory, settling and developing cities, training military units and settlers, the development of new technologies and waging war or establishing diplomatic relations with other nations. In order to succeed in the game you are required to appropriately balance your actions, including economic, military and technological development. Depending on the player's preference, victory can be reached in several different ways. In Sid Meier's Civilization III we have 16 playable civilizations at our disposal, all of them with a with a unique and distinctive playstyle. Each civilization has two skills, that the other nations have not invented yet at the beginning of the game, as well as a unique unit - its proper use can turn the tide in our favour. In of mechanics, the title is based on exactly the same principles as its predecessor. However, the game does feature several notable novelties. The interface in Civilization III has been changed - it is now much more intuitive and the amount of information about cities available from the main map was increased. The two most important changes are: the introduction of army commanders, who accumulate experience over the course of the game, and the new strategic resources, which appear only in certain locations and are used for the production of specific weapons and technologies.

Strategy

The second official expansion pack for the third installment in a series of turn-based strategy games developed by Sid Meier and his new studio Firaxis Games. The expansion gives an opportunity to take part in the largest conquests recorded so far by the human history (in Mesopotamia or America for example). In each of the eight in-game campaigns, the player assumes control over one of new nations (the Maya and the Sumerians mainly) - those have their own leaders, unique units, technologies, as well as special abilities and features. As usual, the player leads the civilization of their choice to glory through taking care of its economic, cultural and military development. Furthermore, the game was enriched with a set of additional elements, including new victory conditions, wonders, environmental objects, resources, catastrophes, natural disasters, buildings, city upgrades, diplomatic options and types of government. What's more, Sid Meier's Civilization III: Conquests offers play-by-email sessions. Both the map and scenario editors were improved.

Strategy

An official expansion for the third installment of the cult turn-based strategy game series by Sid Meier and his newly established studio, Firaxis Games. Sid Meier's Civilization III: Play the World is based on the gameplay mechanics of the vanilla game. Therefore, we still lead a chosen civilization to domination over others by conquest, cultural development, or strong economy. The expansion introduces a multiplayer mode via a LAN or the Internet with several modes: Elimination, Domination, Regicide, and King of the Mountain. We can play with friends using three kinds of gameplay system, namely by giving orders in turns, simultaneously, or in the turnless mode. Moreover, Sid Meier's Civilization III: Play the World enriches the original game with eight new civilizations, eight new rulers with different traits and skills (Genghis Khan, Hannibal, Queen Isabella, Brennus, among others), an advanced editor that lets players create their own scenarios, and a number of new maps and locations.
