The Assignment is the first DLC for Evil Within – a third-person survival horror game by Tango Gameworks. It is a part of the season , divided into three parts, which in total offers 15-20 additional hours of gameplay.
The action of The Assignment takes place during the events of the original game, allowing to observe them from a different perspective. It focuses on three detectives send to investigate brutal murders committed in a mental institution. At the spot, it turns out that the place is surrounded by squad cars, but there is nobody to be found around.
The protagonist of the add-on is Juli Kidman, partner of the protagonist of The Evil Within. The player therefore gets to find out what caused her mysterious disappearances, as well as new details of the story. At the same time, the scenario raises new questions, so that the gameplay is accompanied by an aura of mystery and horror. The missions with Juli are even darker and more claustrophobic. The player discovers a new motive in the story mainly by exploration and solving puzzles. The game also contains action sequences in which you either escape or fight abominable monsters.

Game Ratings for The Evil Within: The Assignment Video Game.
Reno Gazette-Journal: 4 / 5 by Jason Hidalgo
Ultimately, though, The Assignment serves up an engaging experience for the genre. Folks who prefer more action with their scares might find its formula lacking. If you want your survival-horror to emphasize the survival part and a healthy dose of suspense, however, this is one assignment you'll want to finish up and turn in.
Digitally ed: 4 / 5 by Shaan Joshi
While it only lasted a handful of hours, The Assignment ended up being a refreshing counterpart to The Evil Within, rather than being labeled as 'just more of the same'. It's an excellent take on the original formula, blending the old with the new, and while it does end on a cliffhanger, I can only hope that it all comes together in the second DLC.
God is a Geek: 7.5 / 10 by Greg Hill
Horrifying environments and enemies keep you on your toes, but a few choice mechanics can be frustrating and detract from immersion.
