Cyberpunk 2077 may get another DLC. Oblivion Remastered co-creators are to be involved in the works

The CD Projekt Red team was already said to have finished development of Cyberpunk 2077 (several times), but a piece of information suggests that the co-creators of the Oblivion and Metal Gear Solid 3 remasters may be working on new DLC.

Metal Gear Solid 3.

Even though CD Projekt Red's cyberpunk RPG has gained back players' respect after a not-so-great launch, the game's creators still haven't delivered on all their plans. Cyberpunk 2077 didn't even get a multiplayer mode (at least not officially).

After the last big update, it seemed like players couldn't expect anything more than the game's launch on another hardware platform. That's why Free_Carpenter151 - a Reddit - was quite surprised when, while browsing LinkedIn, he came across the profile of a Virtuos studio employee who has been working on quests for the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC since April.

Cyberpunk 2077 is still alive in 2025

Not only was this internet surprised by this find. It seemed, however, that the CD Projekt Red team had already had their first adventure with this universe. The studio released another major update, "created in secret," after the alleged end of the game development with version 2.1. However, releasing an update with fixes and a few quests is one thing, but working on a story DLC is a whole different ball game - and it looks like Doug Van Horne is working on just that.

The screenwriter from Seattle was set to start working at Virtuos studio in April 2025, and his task is to prepare "many new side quests" for Cyberpunk 2077. To make it more interesting, Van Horne mentions polishing quests for the " DLC editions." Yes, "editions," not "edition," in plural.

Old info with a new date?

As we mentioned, the players were greatly surprised by this discovery. Some Reddit s tried to find a different explanation for this information, for example, that maybe Van Horne just updated his profile now, so the mention of "Cyberpunk 2077 DLC" refers to Phantom Liberty.

The problem with this thesis is that the Virtuos team didn't help with the work on the so far only add-on for Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red worked with the studio... but only for the 2.2 update at the end of 2024 (or at least that's all we know from official information).

Of course, we can assume that Van Horne simply called this big update "DLC." In the end, version 2.2 added some new content, so in a way it could be considered as a kind of "DLC" (able content).

Van Horne also doesn't hide his fascination with the world of Cyberpunk 2077. On his official website, he even has two "writing samples" set in this universe. Both were made available before the debut of the 2.2 update, and at least one of them was released on November 21, 2024 - 2 weeks before the release of the latest C2077 update.

Second, smaller DLC before Cyberpunk 2?

However, this entire theory is based on the assumption that there was a mistake by Van Horne or LinkedIn, and the scriptwriter worked with Virtuos Studio, not "from April until now," but before the premiere of the last major update of Cyberpunk 2077. Neither the official website of the American nor any announcement or updated list of game developers confirms this.

It's worth mentioning that there have been speculations about Virtuos employees being involved in creating the second DLC for CD Projekt Red. Perhaps even the same one that was supposed to be canceled, and according to rumors, would take players to the Moon.

According to a on the official forum of a Polish developer, teaming up with a new studio to create just one update would be a pretty strange move. Why would CDPR provide the source code of their game to an external team just to create a few new gigs and implement further improvements? Unless this cooperation is to go a step further...

It can also be mentioned that Virtuos has is currently focusing on its next projects.

Let's underline it once more: this is mostly speculation based on one and not fully confirmed info. The development of Cyberpunk 2077 has officially ended, so it's unlikely we'll see another big update or DLC, even if it's on a smaller scale than Phantom Liberty, as some internet s speculate.

Nonetheless, fans would probably not complain if CD Projekt Red was secretly preparing something for them again. Who knows, maybe it will even be a gift for the release of Cyberpunk 2077 on the Nintendo Switch 2 console on Thursday, June 5th?
