Quite unexpectedly, Bethesda has announced The Old Blood – a standalone extension to Wolfenstein: The New Order released last year. It will debut In Europe on 5th May for PC as well as Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Versions for PC and PS4 will appear both digitally and as box editions, whereas the XONE version will only be available through Xbox Live store. The expansion (developed by Machine Games studios, the creators of Wolfenstein: The New Order) will be a prequel, which means that the action is set before the plot of The New Order. The game takes the players back to 1946 where they are tasked with helping BJ Blazkowicz, the main protagonist of the cycle, embark on a mission set in Bavaria.
The new campaign will be divided into two parts. In the first one (entitled Rudi Jäger and the Den of Wolves), the main objective will be to get hold of the coordinates indicating the location of General Deadhead’s hideout. In order to accomplish this mission, you will need to get into Castle Wolfenstein and deal with a "fanatical" prison guard. This means that once again the players will get the chance to visit the iconic fortress. In part two (The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schabbs), the search for coordinates will lead Blazkowicz to the city of Wulfburg where the Nazi archaeologist seeks for mysterious artifacts that can unleash a powerful dark force. As you probably guessed, your task will be to stop her.
During PAX East, on Friday and Saturday at 4:30 PM, there will be a two-part livestream presentation of the extension on Bethesda's official Twitch channel. For now, you can watch the first trailer for The Old Blood, which can be found at the top of this page.
