Shotgun Cop Man is a crazy action platformer in which we play as the titular cop going to hell to arrest Satan himself. The game was developed by the independent studio DeadToast Entertainment, which also has the genre-related My Friend Pedro in its portfolio.

Gameplay

In Shotgun Cop Man we watch the action from the side.

Hellish journey

We explore hell in the game, jumping on platforms, avoiding abysses and other terrain obstacles, dodging traps, making use of trampolines or hooking a rope onto environmental elements and swinging in the air.

This is not the end, as our cop must also face hordes of enemies. The hero confronts both the ordinary inhabitants of the devilish domain and the powerful demons serving as bosses.

Using infernal guns

The protagonist makes use of firearms on the battlefield. Apart from the titular shotgun, there is also a pair of pistols on his forearm, which he can shoot independently in different directions.

WayTooManyGames: 5 / 10 by Leonardo Faria

I guess that what made me feel so disappointed about Shotgun Cop Man was the fact that I had just played a vastly superior game with the same gimmick, but no control issues whatsoever. In Sacre Bleu, I could perform small jumps before blasting myself with the recoil of my bunderbluss. Combat was fun there. It wasn’t here. Shotgun Cop Man ended up being a torturous patience test, with a control scheme that just didn’t fit in with the level design, really poor presentation, and a level of difficulty that never felt like I was being tested; I felt I was being made fun of.

Press Start: 7.5 / 10 by Brodie Gibbons

Like other precision platformers before it, Shotgun Cop Man takes a deliberate gameplay-first approach and trades even a fun story for a few gags and quips. Its unique approach to movement is enough of a hook to push you through the game’s many, many levels, however, I do think the game will live and die, and perhaps avoid premature damnation, on its custom levels.

A devilishly silly shooter that is the very definition of easy to pick up difficult to master.
