more chapters to go. Of course, the next one is 5th. However, not much is known about it. We can only be sure of one thing – its release will not be anytime soon.

Deltarune timeline

  1. As we know from the interview for Nintendo, the idea of Deltarune was born in 2012. The game was quickly abandoned for Undertale. However, Deltarune is a mix of this 13-year-old idea and his great hit.
  2. Chapter 1 was released and announced in October 2018 on PC. Switch and PlayStation fans had to wait until February 2019.
  3. In the case of Chapter 2, the time gap between releases on different platforms was a lot shorter and all players could enjoy it in September 2021.
  4. Following the release of Chapter 2, the Status Update was posted. We can learn from it that Chapters 3, 4 and 5 will be released at the same time.
  5. In September 2022, Toby Fox informed that the team has been expanded and developers were working simultaneously on chapters 3, 4 and 5, but the first two were on more advanced stage of production.
  6. In Autumn 2023, it was announced that Chapter 3 is playable from the beginning to the end.
  7. Halloween update, released in 2023, was rich in information. We have learned that Chapter 3 is content complete, and more and more team are switching to Chapter 4. However, the most important information was that chapter 5 was “pretty far of” and will not be part of the initial paid release, as it would take a long time to wait for it. Moreover, a new producer had been hired with the task of speeding up the release process.
  8. A few months later, in Winter 2024, we learned that the team is focusing on Chapter 4 with some “minor” work on Chapter 5.
  9. In Summer 2024, we have learned that the initial development on Chapter 5 is progressing, but the team is still focusing on Chapter 4.
  10. It was not until Holiday 2024, when Toby Fox announced that Chapters 3 and 4 are “basically completed”. Moreover, while most of the team was polishing the completed part of the game, new people were working on Chapter 5.
  11. Since then, of course, we had information on the release date and time of Chapter 1-4. However, there was no update on Chapter 5.

You will have to wait for Chapter 5 release a little bit longer

As you can see from the above timeline, there is not much to tell about the release of Chapter 5. However, it can be said that it will not be this year (as it would be part of the paid release), or probably not even the beginning of next one. Until now each chapter has taken more or less 2 years to complete. With the new producer and more team , we can assume that the process will speed up. However, it all depends on its complexity. Based on information from the shared updates, the work on the next chapter is already in progress and going well, however, it is not very advanced. So, don’t get too excited! Nevertheless, the good news is that probably all ed platforms will get it at the same time.
